Emilio Martinez
Emilio Martinez is a Honduran-born artist who embraced painting as a profound means of expression. Martinez's paintings are a macabre fantasia, populated with fanged beasts and lurid characters, brought to life with bold brushwork inspired by 20th-century Figurative Expressionism. These works carry a weighty emotionality, reflective of the uncomfortable and, at times, violent conditions of their time. With an allegorical quality, his nightmarish images evoke cautionary tales and fairy tales, urging viewers to consider the depth beyond appearances.
His works have been exhibited at the Instituto Cultural de México in Miami, Centro de Desarollo de las Artes Visuales in Havana, Cuba, Galeria Oriente in Santiago de Cuba, among others.
