Saar Scheerlings
For Saar Scheerlings, weaving is both a technique and a metaphor, reflecting the expanding structure of her oeuvre. Born in Eindhoven, Netherlands, Scheerlings embarked on her artistic journey after studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven. Influenced by her education in design, Saar has a profound interest in daily life, distancing herself from industrial design's utilitarian approach, masterfully blending art, design, and craft disciplines to explore new forms and expressions. Through a meticulous process of sculpting, cutting, sewing, and weaving, she not only creates magnificent sculptures but also cultivates her own culture.
Her work has been shown in various international galleries and museums including Hanwha Galleria Seoul, Tripostal Lille (FR), Design Museum Gent (B), Galerie Fleur en Wouter (NL), Valerius Gallery (LUX), HAGD Contemporary (DEN) and in the spring of 2024 at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, as a finalist for the prestigious Loewe Foundation Craft Prize.
